“We understand that people are proud of where they come from,” says Scott Gephart, Atlas Race CEO. “The OCR community is a group of people who dedicate themselves to overcoming obstacles and taking on challenges. We wanted to give them something new, something that has a little more connection to where they are from. The Throwdown and Best of the West gives those areas and the people there some local pride to fight for.”
The Heart of Texas Throwdown will give obstacle racers in the state of Texas some down home state pride to compete for. Taking place between San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin the series offers a special medal and t-shirt for the everyday participant who finishes all three events in 2015. Meanwhile the Best of the West Challenge will encompass NorCal, Medford Oregon, and Portland. Those individuals who take part in the Feb 28th SoCal Atlas Race will be able to register for either NorCal and Portland, or Medford and Portland to round out the series if they want. Atlas Race also has something for the competitive athletes taking part in the series as well.
“Elite athletes and teams will have the ability to compete for the Heart of Texas Throwdown Championship and a Best of the West Championship,” says Lance Landers of Atlas Race.. “The top male and female in both race distances for the Heart of Texas, as well as top masters, juniors, and Team will receive not only a special trophy, but also receive entry into the 2016 OCR World Championship but also Atlas Race Athlete Ambassadorship for 2016 and free entry into the 2016 Heart of Texas Throwdown in order to defend their crown.
“Similarly those taking part in the Best of the West will receive entry into the following years challenge, and entry into the 2015 OCRWC since that series wraps prior to this years OCRWC. They will also get Athlete Ambassadorship with Atlas for a full year.
“This truly is a unique challenge in the sport of obstacle racing and we feel it helps take obstacle racing to the next level of being a sport. Not only within the challenge itself but also in working with the OCRWC as it helps to continue to create a diversified sport where organizations are starting to work together to build something more for the people that matter, the community of racers.”
